FIVE GOOD THINGS

13 May 2016

New month, new opportunities. Well, fingers crossed. I don't know why but I love the month of May. It is usually full of Spring days : warm (but not too warm) and sunny days. You can feel the wind in your hair and stop and smell the flowers. if you feel like you're in a cartoon. You can feel Summer approaching slowly. Well, this year, it seems to be cold and rainy but well, who knows life is unpredictable. So, here’s what’s been going on with me lately…

01. I've been preparing a giveway to celebrate and honour all those years and your support of Serenbird. I can't tell you more right now but I'm sure you'll be please by what's in store :)
02. I'm spending my weekend with my bestfriend. We are going shopping. So you know, what that means.... A NEW HAUUUUL COMING UP SOON!
03. In June, I'm doing a "vide dressing" - as we call it here! I'm so excited :) I've never participated to an open air jumble sale! I've been to several events like this one but I've never really been a part of it. I've also been planning a trip with one of my closest friend! I can't wait! :D
04. The year is almost over and I can't wait to be able to do what I like. I have big plans for next year and nothing that includes teaching! I feel like this year has been sooooo long. This will be damn great. I cannot wait! * yes the cat is out of the bag *
05. I'm going to try and find a job as well. I'm sooo happy about that. After spending a whole year without a job, I simply can't wait to go back out there. Anyway, as my course is over I will be able to get more blogging related things done. I'm soooo sooo cheerful about that!

Thanks for reading! ♥ And you, what are your hopes and dreams for May ? What do you wish for ? What's new with you? x

Organic or natural cosmetics - which one should you go for? *guest post*

11 May 2016

Heyyy my lovelies! I'm here today with something special. This post is brought to you by Zara. You can find her on highstylelife :) Without further due, I'll let you read her insightful article! I will see you soon and I hope you'll like this little guest post ♥

Do you exactly know what organic and natural cosmetics are and what are the differences? Have you ever tried them? Well, you should, and after you tried them you will know which one fits you best.

Organic
Organic products are the ones which are made from only natural ingredients - they are grown and taken care of without any usage of ingredients such as synthetic pesticides, petroleum fertilizers or sewage sludge fertilizers, and it must not be a genetically modified organism (GMO.)

The process
The organic products rely on the ingredients which determine the quality of finished products and they are usually authentic organic cosmetic products. The process of making the organic product has to be respectful to the environment and only physical transformations are allowed such as drying of the plants, filtration and purification, wild gathering, cold pressure, etc. so that all the properties would be saved. The products usually have labels such as USDA (United States Departments of Agriculture) and NOP (Natural Organic Program), and they are required to contain 70-94% organic ingredients.

Ingredients
For example, if one of the natural components of product is water, you should know that there are probably some preservatives which can be natural such as citric acid or parabens and there will always be some kind of a label (for example USDA), or if there are too many words and ingredients that you cannot read or pronounce, they are not completely organic. Ingredients are identified by prefixes, syllables and words such as- “Polyoxyethylene” or “Polyethylene glycol” that they are synthetic and maybe harmful.
Our skin absorbs about 60% of everything we put on it and if you have problems with it, some kind of rash, acne, etc. you can use organic beauty products. Vegetable oil (avocado, jojoba), vegetable non-drying-oils (almond oil), vegetable butter (cocoa), beeswax, carnauba wax, liquid wax (jojoba), are just some of the organic ingredients which can help you treating your skin in the right way. When it comes to makeup, especially if you have a sensitive skin, always opt for organic. Cosmetic experts from Dr. Hauschka carefully choose the best from the nature and implement this in high quality organic products, which are worldwide known.

Natural
Natural products (“derived from nature”) are the ones which are made of plants and minerals that occur in nature and which are minimally processed and not artificially produced. They are not necessarily organic but they can be. Some products can be altered with preservatives, perfumes and other artificial components and those fillers can be used for preserving the product to last longer. Although some of them are made in the laboratory, skin products can be very effective and safe as well. Some of the “hand-made” chemicals can actually help us very much.

Ingredients and the process
In order to preserve the vital nutrients of the product, preservatives should be used. For example, if you take a skin care product that contains apple extracts, how long do you think it will last until it gets rotten? So, they must be used if you want them to last longer. Also, natural products don’t include ingredients such as petrochemicals, parabens, sodium lauryl and laureth sulfates, phthalates, synthetic dyes and synthetic colors, though it is possible to create a synthetic version of natural ingredients such as Vitamin E.

Some of the studies have shown that activities in many natural ingredients are beneficial for personal skin care, however you should always pay attention to the ingredients and to your skin type, because those are the important factors when buying the right and high-quality product for yourself. Youngblood makeup would be the best choice if you opt for natural makeup. Natural skin care ingredients can include jojoba, safflower oil, rose hip seed oil, shea butter, beeswax, aloe vera, etc.
All in all, now that you know the differences between organic and natural cosmetic you can choose which one you like and which suits you best for your skin type. Don’t be afraid to try something new, because maybe you will like it very much.

Full Spring Skincare routine

9 May 2016

Heeey lovely people! I'm here today to share with you my full skincare routine. I have not done this in a while! It was a bit of an overdue, wasn't it? Anyway, here we go :)

THE CLEANSER.
First off, we have the cleanser. I currently use 3 different products to clean my face. Who said I was your average kind of girl ? After all, I'm known to do everything differently, am I not? Surely, it's quite a lot of products but I like to switch my skincare routine. You will get the hang of it, don't worry. At night, I use my Clarins to remove any excess of makeup and then clean up my face with my lush Angel on bareskin. Then in the morning, I will use my Cleanse & Polish from Liz Earle. I love how my face feels after using this. It wakes me up and makes me feel ready to take on the day. When I'm on a bit of a hurry I will use my Lush cleanser. Do you now understand why I need three different products ? Have I lost you?

THE HYDRATATION.
Either way, I will now introduce you to the core of my skincare routine. While I was in Amsterdam, I picked up Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Cream and I have been loving it ever since! My skin was soooo dry. I don't know why but it was very dry and dull. This Magic Cream rescued my skin! It feels more vibrant and less redish than it was before! At night, I use my Lush cream Celestial. It calms and hydrates my skin perfectly. I've been using this one for years! It has never disappointed my sensitive skin.

THE FACIAL MASK.
Only one product in this category. I know, it's quite unbelievable! However, you might have seen a lot of this facial mask on Serenbird. I can't rave enough about this baby. This is my favourite face mask ever! I simply can't get enough of this amazing Lush Mask.

I hope you enjoyed this little insight on my morning and evening routine :) Thanks for reading and I'll see you around ♥

Heeey mes amours!

Vous me suivez toujours?

nude beauty blender + cleanser { review }

7 May 2016

Hello, my lovebirds! A few weeks ago, I bought a nude beauty blender and a beauty blender cleanser. I was a bit skeptical about the cleanser... I have owned 4 beauty blender this year. And they all turned disgusting and unwashable after a few months... So I tend to go for her fake sisters. I feel like they last longer. They are not as good but they work just as well. I don't know why but my beauty blender always gets sick. Was it because I didn't put my beauty blender sponges in the washing machine or didn't use the official cleanser to wash it? To this day, I have no clue. In order to unravel this mystery, I decided to give Beauty Blender another shot.

Beauty blender, solid Cleanser.
First of all, the first thing that struck me was the smell. It has a very strong and almost medical smell. It sort of smells like a disinfectant. It is very easy to use and comes with a little silicone thingy to help you clean your makeup sponge. This accessory is very helpful! I love using it to squeeze out the soap. It works like any other soap but I think there is some sort of disinfectant in it. - it has to because the smell is just... you know. On overall, it's pretty good. The only reproach I could make is the price. It's veryyyyy expensive. - at least, for me it's expensive.
RATING : 4/5

Nude Beauty Blender.
My new beauty blender is yellow-ish. It's soft and floppy. It's easy to wash with my new cleanser and easy to use. I don't see any difference with her older sister, the original pink Beauty Blender. You can read my previous review here.
RATING : 4/5

Have you ever tried any of these products ? What do you think about them? :)
Thanks for reading and I'll see you soon ♥

Coucou, mes lovelies!
Beauty blender, solid Cleanser.

Always be truthful

3 May 2016

" it's discouraging to see how many people are shocked by honesty and how few by deceit. "

the greatest advantage of speaking the truth is that you don't have to remember what you said.
I don't know about you but people often think that I'm mean. I guess it's one of the downside of being blunt. I'm honest but that doesn't mean I'm an asshole... - or maybe it does?

photo diary : my weekend away

23 April 2016 Amsterdam, Pays-Bas

Heeey lovelies! As you might know, a few weeks ago, I spent a weekend in Amsterdam. It was really nice. I got to discover Amsterdam. I had never been to Netherlands or even Amsterdam. Actually, I had never been to any country where I didn't speak the language. It was sooo unsettling. No matter how hard I would focus, I couldn't make up even one word that would make any sense. I can understand English, French, Spanish and Italian but also a few words of German and Russian. However, in that case, it was no help. Anyway, fortunately, most people in Amsterdam seem to speak fluent English. (hooray!) I've to admit, it was such a relief.

We had such a beautiful weekend. It was sunny and very clear. Sadly, Amsterdam was crowded that weekend. People were everywhere and so were raging bicycles. I couldn't believe it. Honestly, I even thought of burning a bike as soon as I got home - in honour of Amsterdam, of course. Joke aside, it definitely was absolutely frantic!

We decided to stay in an airbnb. Our host was absolutely delightful and his flat was sooo stylish! We ate local food and probably gained about 200 pounds in only one weekend - but well, food is life. In fact, we went twice to the same café - we kinda fell in love with their pastries! We did two museums : the Van Gogh and Rijks museums - I was advised by lovely people. I agree with everybody else. If you're there, check them out! I'm very fond of Rijksmuseum!
We walked around Amsterdam. I met a very nice Makeup Artist from the Charlotte Tilburry's counter at Bijenkorf. André was sooo talented and taught me valuable things! I'm soo thankful! It was definitely worth the wait... Consequently, I wanted to buy a few bits and bobs from Charlotte Tilburry but a lot of their products were sold out. Lucky me!

This little trip was a good trip but it was also sooo exhausting. It took me about 2 days to recover ahahahahaha I'm sooo glad I got the chance to go somewhere I didn't know. I'm so happy I discovered a new culture and city. I learnt a lot in just 2 days and a half. I wouldn't give it up for the world. I was asked several times if I entend to go back there... Honestly, I don't know. Probably not, Amsterdam was a bit too hectic for me...

I hope you enjoyed this photo diary :) It's always a pleasure sharing my days with you!
I was thinking of doing some sort of Vlog of my trip, would you be interested in seeing that? :)
I will see you soon and thanks for reading. ♥

Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful

16 April 2016

“ I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. He taught me that if you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it at full speed ahead. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good. Hot is no good either. White hot and passionate is the only thing to be. ”
